Ford F-150 Raptor & All-New Ford Edge Winners in the Middle East Car of the Year Awards
The Ford Edge and F-150 Raptor have earned top honours in the prestigious Middle East Car of the Year (MECOTY) awards.
The all-conquering F-150 Raptor, which boldly expands on the capability that has made the F-150 America’s best-selling truck for the past 43 years, crushed its opposition as 2020 Middle East Truck of the Year, while the all-new Edge was named Compact Crossover of the Year.
The awards, now in their seventh year, are the most coveted automotive awards in the region, combining the expertise and experience of 14 motoring journalists from the GCC and Levant, who work through a multi stage nomination and scoring process to arrive at their list of winners.
The Ford F-150 Raptor – Truck of the Year
The F-150 Raptor remains one of the most capable, off-road ready trucks ever made – and its recognition as 2020 Truck of the Year is thoroughly deserved. Powered by a high-output 3.5-litre EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 engine, the Raptor boasts 450 horsepower and 691 Nm of torque.
Performance was significantly upgraded for the 2019 model, with revised Fox Racing Shox that include new Live Valve Technology and more suspension travel than the previous-generation Raptor. The truck was also equipped with second-generation BFGoodrich® 35-inch all-terrain T/A KO2 tyres and Terrain Management System with seven driver-selectable modes designed to help the Raptor handle the toughest terrain. A new driving function, Trail Control, was added to 2019 models to enable low-speed, off-road use over uneven and rugged terrain, giving off-roaders even more capability in extreme circumstances.
The Ford Edge – Compact SUV of the Year
The all-new Ford Edge and its performance variant, the Edge ST, were also introduced in June 2019. The Edge lineup offers more standard driver-assist technology than any other midsize SUV, including Post-Collision Braking, Evasive Steering Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go and Lane Centreing.
The all-new Edge ST – Ford’s first SUV to be tuned by the Ford Performance team – features the most powerful V6 engine available in its class with a specially tuned 2.7-litre twin-turbocharged EcoBoost® engine pumping out 335 horsepower and 515 Nm of torque.
It’s also outfitted for dynamic handling with a quick-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission, standard all-wheel drive with selectable traction control, an available performance brake package, and ST-tuned sport suspension.
Even without the ST-tuning touches, the Edge packs a considerable punch. The 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine offers more power, more torque and better fuel economy than the outgoing model and is mated to a newly designed eight-speed automatic transmission with Auto Start-Stop technology.
Inside, a redesigned centre console is accentuated by an all-new rotary gearshift dial that frees up space, allows easier access to the wireless charging pad and enhances the vehicle’s modern, sophisticated feel.
With a wider grille and freshened fascia that create an athletic, modern appearance, the new Edge maintains the reputation for sophistication it’s carried for more than a decade. Full LED headlamps are standard, LED fog lamps and signature lighting are standard on Trend, Titanium, and ST.
